4 Hot Tub Benefits You Never Knew About

a woman enjoying the benefits of soaking in a hot tub

If you are a hot tub owner, and if you have followed our blog for some time, you will know of some of the many benefits that using a hot tub provides. Hot tubs lower our stress levels, help us sleep better, soothe sore muscles after a workout, and they may even lower blood pressure. We may be preaching to the choir but we can’t stop talking about how regular hot tub use can do wonders for a person. Hang on to your hats, because today we are going to share 4 hot tub benefits you never knew about!

1.  Hot Tubs Boost Immunity

When you soak in a hot tub, your blood circulation is improved, which activates the immune system. When your immune system gets fired up, the production of more white blood cells is encouraged, which fight off infection and disease.  As your temperature rises, your body also sheds toxins and other impurities through perspiration.

2. They May Help Cure the Common Cold

This may sound like an extravagant claim, but what happens is that when you soak in a hot tub, your body temperature rises. This is a state similar to having a fever. When you have a fever, or in this case an elevated temperature, the boost in your immune system stops the cold virus from reproducing. The heat also makes your nose run, which then makes you want to blow it, in turn, getting the crud out of your head. Technically, your hot tub may not actually cure the common cold, but it sure helps you get over it faster.

3. They May Help You Get Thinner

To be honest, sitting in a hot tub for 15 minutes is going to burn about the same amount of calories as sitting on your couch. But here’s the thing. There is something called “cortisol” which is also known as “the fight or flight” hormone, that is produced when the body and mind are stressed out. A raised cortisol level has a lot of negative effects. It can make you crave fatty foods, prevent your body from forming muscle, and make you put weight on in your abdominal region. Ugh. Not good. However, if you relax in the hot tub regularly, you will relax, breathe slower, and reduce your cortisol levels. Which is a very good setup for weight loss.

4. And They… Help With Homework?

Did your jaw just drop? So hear us out. This evidence is anecdotal. However, so many people have been speaking up lately about how they have tried it with their teenagers and it is working. This is how it works. The teenager comes home from school, all fired up and energized from their day. They are stressed out from interacting with other kids—after all, it’s a strain to act cool all day long. Plus, their adrenaline levels are soaring from going to class, talking to teachers, and generally just getting through their day.

Their parents tell them, “Before you even think about starting your homework, I want you to soak in the hot tub for 20 minutes”. The kid thinks, “Ok, cool, whatever. It sounds better than hitting the books”. And do you know what? Twenty minutes later, the teen is relaxed, decompressed, more focused, and much more able to tackle their academic assignments.
