Make 2021 Your Year of Wellness

No one can deny, 2020 has been a challenging year for pretty much everyone on the planet. With that in mind, many people are looking to 2021 with hopeful eyes. While we can’t control everything about the New Year, we can choose to take charge of our overall health. There are plenty of ways to make health and mental wellness a priority. Here are just a few to jumpstart your year of wellness.

Work/Life Balance

Life is always kind of hectic. This year, though, many people have had even more trouble making the distinction between work and downtime. A large number of people have been working from home. Rolling out of bed and heading downstairs for work may seem like the dream, but in practice, it isn’t always so. When your work and regular life both take place in the same space, it’s often hard to see where one ends and the other begins.  One way to embrace mental wellness in the New Year is to create distinct moments throughout the day for selfcare. If possible, define your work hours and schedule your breaks, just like at an office. It can be helpful to actually get out of the house for break times. Take a walk around the block or retire to your backyard retreat for chapter in your current page turner. At the end of the work day, take a dip in your pool or spa to signal the start of home life.

Adopt an Exercise Routine

While taking an exercise class may not always be an options, you can create a healthy fitness habit at home. Consider investing in a piece of exercise equipment like an elliptical or treadmill. Alternatively, you can sign up for online exercise classes or start a routine of going for hikes in your area. If you don’t currently have a backyard pool, but have been thinking about putting one in, now might be the perfect time. Pools offer low impact cardio exercise that works your entire body. Having a backyard pool also creates a more relaxing space to escape to when you need a quick escape in your day.

Mental Time Out

Clearing your mind is an important part of being healthy. Meditation works well for many people, but not everyone feels connected to the practice. If meditation isn’t your thing, try just sitting in a calming spot for a few minutes at a time. This may be a local park, your own flower garden, or your backyard spa. Even better, the warm water and swirling jets of a spa offer a wide variety of relaxation benefits.
