Testing and Balancing Your Pool in 5 Steps

Testing and Balancing Your Pool in 5 Steps

It is recommended that all pool owners test and balance their pool at least once a week. Follow the four(4) steps in order below:

STEP 1 – Test & Adjust Total Alkalinity
Ideal Range: 80 ppm – 120 ppm
Product to Use: Alkalinity Plus

STEP 2 –Test & Adjust pH
Ideal Range: 7.4 – 7.6
Product to Use to Increase pH: pH Plus
Product to Use to Decrease pH: pH Minus

STEP 3 – Test & Adjust Total Bromine or Chlorine
Ideal Range for Bromine Pools: 2 ppm – 4 ppm
Product to Use for Bromine Pools: Brominating Tablets
Ideal Range for Chlorine Pools: 1 ppm – 3 ppm
Products to Use for Chlorine Pools: Pool Frog, Chlorine Tablets, Powder Chlorine or Liquid Chlorine

STEP 4 – Test & Adjust Calcium Hardness
Ideal Range: 200 ppm – 300 ppm
Product to Use: Calcium Plus

STEP 5 – Test & Adjust Cyanuric Acid (Chlorine Pools Only)
Ideal Range: 30 ppm – 50 ppm
Product to Use: Stabilizer
Note: Cyanuric Acid levels in excess of 100 ppm is unnecessary and may lead to bacterial and algae growth.

Algae-Free Water in 4 Easy Steps

Algae-Free Water in 4 Easy Steps

In addition to maintaining properly balanced water, follow the below steps while running your pool pump 8-12 hours a day:

STEP 1 – Sanitize
Use Bromine Tablets, MPT Extra Chlorine Tablets, or any Chlorine product to bring your pool to the appropriate sanitizer level. See above for recommended Bromine and Chlorine levels.

STEP 2 –Shock
Use any Turbo Shock, Liquid Chlorine or any Oxidizer product on a weekly basis to shock your pool, and thus destroy contaminants & maintain clarity. Always broadcast shock product evenly across the pool water while the pump is turned on. Brush away any remnants from the pool surface towards the deep end drains

STEP 3 – Algaecide
Use Defend +, or any Algaecide, on a weekly basis as an algae preventative. It is always better to prevent algae from growing than to deal with a green pool.

STEP 4 – Enzymes
Add POOL PERFECT TOTAL into the skimmer to break down pollen, sunscreens, lotions, oils, bather waste, reduce phosphates, keep your filter clean and allow your chlorine to work more effectively.

Spa Care Guidelines

Spa Care Guidelines

Draining your spa every 3-4 months will help maintain a cleaner spa environment and keep odors from developing in the tub.

Testing and balancing your spa water once weekly will protect the spa and bathers from unsanitary conditions and prolong the life of the spa.

Using “SPA” chemicals in your hot tub will help you maintain the water balance easier and protect the tub from harm. Chemicals that do not state that they are for spa usage are likely not designed for the unique water conditions of a spa.

Cleaning the spa filters on a monthly basis will allow your water to be filtered properly and help you to maintain good water clarity. A “SPA” filter cleaner is always a good idea to remove oils in the filter that build up and eventually clog and damage the cartridge filter. Using a spa filter cleaner will prolong the life of your spa filter, will give you cleaner water and will ultimately save you money. Spa filters typically last a year.

Using UV or mineral sanitizer in a spa can reduce the amount of chlorine needed to maintain clean safe spa water. However, every spa still needs to use an EPA registered sanitizer (i.e. Chlorine, Bromine or BAQUA Spa).
