How to Plan the Ultimate Back-to-School Party

This year we may have even more than usual to celebrate about going back to school. After a long pandemic-influenced break, kids and adults alike are looking forward to a return to the classroom. With the end of summer in sight and getting back into a routine again on the horizon, why not wrap things up with a splash? Let’s plan the ultimate back-to-school pool party! It is a great opportunity to reach out to friends your child may not have seen in a while. Rekindling those relationships can lessen some anxiety about returning to school. Let’s examine some fun poolside ideas for welcoming in the school year.

It All Starts with an Invitation

The fun begins with a creative invitation. Did you know that there are online programs where you can design your own party invitations and print or email them out to your guests? A simple online search will provide you with many choices. Evite.com is one site that offers free customizable party invitations. Alternatively, you could round up your kids to help make some handmade invitations for a real personal touch.

Party Decorations

A balloon arch is a festive way to welcome your guests. From their first glance, visitors can see that having fun at this party is a priority. Welcome each child with a pool noodle to keep. Instruct them to “Use your noodle in school this year!” Decorate the pool itself with some exciting new pool floats. They are visually appealing and will be enjoyed by all.

What to Eat?

For most outside parties, keeping the menu simple is a good idea. Finger sandwiches, fruit kebabs, and a veggie platter are all good options. A fun snack bowl idea is to fill a container with potato chips and goldfish crackers and place a sign next to it labeled “Fish and Chips”. Don’t forget something for dessert. Frozen popsicles or mini cupcakes are easy and always a hit. For beverages, set up an area with coolers of bottled water and juice. You could get clever and make a sign to hang over the area that says “Thirst Aid Station”.

Games Anyone?

Typically, kids have no problem figuring out how to have fun in the pool. If they need suggestions for some fun ideas on old-fashioned pool games, do a quick search online on that topic. If you have any competitive games, be sure to have prizes in a back-to-school theme. A pencil case, a set of drawing pencils, or a colorful binder are all great prize ideas. It is a good idea to plan some out-of-the-pool activities as well. Hula hoops, water pistols, bean bag toss, and water balloons will provide plenty of on-land fun.

Party Favors

What kind of a party would it be without fun party favors? A Back-to-School theme is ripe with ideas. Fill a small party gift bag with new pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, small notebooks, and stickers. Those treats are both practical and will provide something new and fun to start off the school year.

Safety for All

Your most important task when hosting any sort of pool party is to provide a high level of safety for your guests. It is essential that there are plenty of adults on hand to provide the necessary level of supervision for your young guests. Make sure all swimmers are aware of the basic safety rules: no running, no pushing, no diving, and no roughhousing. Have a first aid kit handy. Extra sunscreen and bug spray are important extras.   When planning the ultimate back-to-school pool party, you can count on Fronheiser Pools to help.
